In addition to writing for the West Ottawan, I am also an active part in our swim and water polo programs at my school. I have been a part of West Ottawa (WO) swimming for eight years, starting when I was only nine years old. When I reached high school, I joined the water polo team and discovered my passion for the game. I have had the honor of being the varsity captain of the water polo team for the past two seasons and the varsity captain of the swim team this past season. In between seasons, I also coached for WO swim club.
Aside from athletics, I am heavily involved in Student Senate as the Executive President. Throughout the year, we put on events such as dances, blood drives, assemblies, and fundraisers for our school. This year, through Senior Survivor (our biggest fundraiser of the year) we were able to collect $39, 045 for our district charity. As Executive President, I oversee all the planning for these events and I report to the school board monthly.

I joined the West Ottawan at the beginning of my junior year. Now, almost two years later, I am a senior member of our staff and have published over twenty articles garnering over four thousand views total. Throughout my time on the West Ottawan, I have been able to meet some really cool people with interesting stories.

For the past three years I have also participated in our Links program. Links is a program that pairs student mentors with students that have disabilities. As a Link, I was essentially a tutor, a friend, and a mentor all rolled into one. For my Links capstone project, I organized a fundraiser with a local restaurant. In total, we raised around $400 for the program.
Outside of school, I am an avid reader, often finishing books in one day. I also love watching movies with my family and playing with my dog, Finn. |
